Avant‐garde designer and student of the Master of Fashion (Design), Chris Ran Lin believes in the unlimited potential of the knitted garment. His experiments are brave and highly exploratory. Born in China, Lin grew up surrounded by fashion: his mother a dressmaker and his grandmother an expert in the artistry of traditional Chinese craft. He spent most of his childhood in his family‐owned fabric store.
After immigrating to Melbourne at age 18, he began his study in the Bachelor of Fashion (Design) (Honours) at RMIT. During the program, he interned at Australian label Willow (2008) and Calibre (2011). In 2008, Lin’s day and evening wear were granted second and third places in the renowned Australian Young Designers Award and the following year represented Australia in the Jeanswest International Fashion Award. He showcased his first collection in Guangdong (China) Fashion Week and was also selected to showcase his work as part of the L’Oréal Melbourne Fashion Festival (2012). Lin continues his practice through his own label, Chris Ran Lin, operating since 2013. His collection “LINE” saw him placed within the top 10 designers in the T-Force International Fashion Awards in China.
